Our History

Bob and Carolyn first established Rawhide Chemoil in 1967, but prior to that, Bob operated the business out of their basement as a Standard Oil Jobber with tank wagon service. Before 1967, Bob and Carolyn moved to Fremont from York, Nebraska in 1962 and ran the Standard Oil Station at the corner of 23rd and Broad Street. Bob was always looking for new ways to build his career so when the Standard Oil agency became open upon retirement of the old agent, Bob and Carolyn took on the challenge of the tank wagon service of delivering fuel to the area farmers. Being the entrepreneur, Bob would stop by a farmer’s home and ask if he could fill their fuel tank. If he got the answer no, he would ask if he could paint their fuel tank and of course most of them said yes. Bob would then stop again on his next round a few weeks later and most would gladly give him the opportunity to fill their tanks. It’s amazing how a red can of paint can lead to many friends and customers of which we still have today. Bob and Carolyn have expanded the business over the years and have moved their office from a basement, laundry room, spare garage, to a moved in office, to our current location in 2002. Carolyn jokingly said that she finally had to drive to work after 40 years of being at home. Bob and Carolyn have “mostly” retired now and Rawhide is currently run by their daughter Jennifer with Brenda running the BP “short stop” in town.
